My first foray into songwriting was in the summer of 2000, when I was going on my 5th year in college. Probably out of boredom or out of the abundance of my heart. I began strumming chords on the guitar, writing a few lyrics here and there, and came up with my first song composition entitled “Fly”.
It was only recently that I was able to record it on digital media (using GarageBand). Here’s the full song posted on SoundCloud:

On top of having rekindled my love for music and songwriting, I was also fortunate to share “Fly” in the short film “This Ring”, written and directed by my friend Jill Villanueva-Palarca and included in the 9th Mindanao Film Festival. My song was even nominated as Best Song in the filmfest (!), but I lost to a certain fellow named Gloc-9. 😉
Check out the trailer for “This Ring”, where you can hear the song:
Thank you, Father God, for this amazing skill that you have blessed me with. I’ll be sharing more of my song compositions in my upcoming posts, so I hope you stick around.
